Step outside and look around and you can see spring busting out here Southern Oaks Apartments.  Seasonal flowers are starting to spring up and trees are starting to bloom.  Aside from the beauty that spring brings, it also brings with it those nasty allergies that can make our lives miserable.

Allergy medicines are great to alleviate the symptoms, but they also have side affects such as drowsiness, brain fog, slower reaction time and dry sinuses.  Why not consider an alternative solution to beating this years allergy season.

Consider the following to help get you through the allergy season naturally:

  1. Eat a whole food diet.  This consists of choosing foods that are loaded with anti-oxidants to help boost your body’s immune system such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and whole grains.
  2. Spice up your recipes.  Add some cayenne or chili pepper to your next meal.  These spices can decrease mucous secretions.  Also try using fresh ginger as well as this is a natural anti-histamine as well as a decongestant.
  3. An apple a day keeps the doctor away.  Foods that contain Quercetin such as apples, red onions, red grapes and berries help the body release fewer histamines.  Try and incorporate these foods as well into your diet.
  4. Reduce dust.  It’s tempting when the weather is cool to open those windows and take advantage of the fresh are.  However, along with this fresh air come the pollens that cause allergy symptoms.  Make sure to keep windows and doors closed as much as possible and make sure to dust the surfaces in your home frequently.
  5. Reduce your stress.  Stress hormones interfere with your body’s ability to stay healthy.  Incorporate exercise into your schedule and get at least 8 hours of sleep each night to help reduce your level of stress.
