All of us have nights where sleep is very elusive.  You toss and turn all night long hoping for just a fewID-100154627 hours of rest before staring your busy day.  At Southern Oaks Apartments, we want all of our residents to get a great night’s sleep so here a some tips you can try to fall asleep faster and sleep better on those restless nights.

1. Watch how much caffeine you put into your body. A lot of us depend on caffeine throughout the day, but truthfully the substance can stay in your body for up to 14 hours. So try to not drink anything caffeinated 4-6 hours before bed.

2. Don’t drink alcohol. Many of us think it’s a quick way to relax ourselves and fall asleep, but it will actually cause sleep disturbances, like tossing and turning, which leaves us exhausted in the morning.

3. Try to relax as much as possible. A lot goes on in our daily lives that produce lots of stress. Your bed should be a stress free zone. Try reading, taking a warm bath, or meditating to get your mind off of today’s events and what’s to come tomorrow.

4. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Just about anything can be related to exercise and this is one of them. It’s been proven that exercising will help you sleep better. Sometimes exercising does make you more alert so you want to exercise in the morning and not the evening.

5. Keep the bedroom dark and quiet. While some people need the television on or the stereo playing to help us fall asleep it actually causes disturbances in your sleep. It can also keep you awake for longer than you need to be.
