For our residents her at Southern Oaks Apartments, the winter of 2014 has been one for the record books so far.  Sub-freezing TORONTO HYDRO CORPORATION - Toronto Hydro crews restore powertemperatures, a snow storm that shut down the Metro Atlanta area for several days and now the threat of a significant winter ice storm looms around the corner.

Ice storms bring there own set of challenges including power outages.  The key to weathering an ice storm is having the right supplies and knowing how to stay warm.

  • Make sure you keep  a battery powered radio or TV on hand as well as flashlights and a fresh supply of batteries.
  • Know where all your blankets are stored.  Ensure that you have easy access to them if needed.
  • Fill spare containers with water for washing and keep a supply of bottled water on hand.
  • Stock up on a supply of non-perishable food items as well as a can opener for can goods.
  • Should the power go out switch off lights and appliances to prevent overloading circuits and damaging appliances when power is restored.  Leave one lamp on to signal you when power is restored.
  • Keep your pipes from freezing by turning your faucets on to drip.
  • Check on elderly or disabled friends and family to make sure they are prepared as well.

We want to make sure that all our residents stay safe and warm in their homes during this crazy winter weather we are experiencing this year.
